LP-1 Low-Power RTU
 |
Very low power consumption is achieved using three modes - communicating, scanning, and sleeping. |
A powerful solution for Low power monitoring, control and datalogging applications.
The LP-1 opens up the world of high-tech communications and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) functionality at a very affordable price!
The Kingfisher LP-1 Low Power RTU suits a wide range of remote monitoring applications that include environmental monitoring, gas metering, power metering and datalogging. It's smart, easy to use, has ladder logic capability and has very flexible I/O and communication ports.
Very low power consumption is achieved using three modes - communicating, scanning and sleeping. The LP-1 RTU is packaged in a two part plastic enclosure that houses the electronics, communication interfaces and standby battery.
LP-1 Low Power RTUs are compatible with the entire family of Kingfisher Series II products and are configured using the same Toolbox software.
Overview
- Low power RTU suitable for remote installations
- Onboard battery charging circuit, ideal for solar powered installations
- Compatible with Series II option boards allow even greater flexibility
- Auxiliary 12V output can be used to power an external relay for control of peripheral devices such as high power radios

Works with Series II
Can be used stand alone and is also compatible with the field proven Kingfisher Series II range. |
Low power operation
In sleep mode all I/O and communication devices are powered down and consumption is less than 10mW. In scanning mode the RTU has its I/O active and consumption is around 450mW. In communicating mode the RTU has all communications and I/O devices powered with the power consumption dependent on the activity and type of communication device.
In low power applications the LP-1 should be configured to spend most of its time in sleep mode, some time in scanning mode and very little time in communicating mode. All sleep mode functions are programmable by the user using TOOLBOX Windows software.
Power supply options
The LP-1 RTU is delivered with a DC plug pack (12V / 500mA), and a 0.8Ah battery suitable for low power applications.
For solar powered applications using a 6-30W solar cell, the LP-1 is fitted with a charging circuit suitable for a 7-17Ah battery. For other applications (such as using Port 3/4), we recommend an external DC supply (11.5-13.8V DC) with a minimum 7Ah backup battery.
The LP-1 also features an auxiliary 12V output that can be used to power an external relay for control of peripheral devices such as high power radios.
RTU typical system configuration

Configuration and programming
The LP-1 Low Power RTUs are configured using the same Kingfisher TOOLBOX program used for the Kingfisher Series II RTU family. TOOLBOX is Windows-based software allowing menu driven configuration, data definition, logic and diagnostics. It is supported by screen displays and easy-to-understand interactive graphic representations.
Port 3 GSM/TRIO option
The LP-1 can be fitted with a GSM modem or TRIO M Series interface on request.
